When it comes to the world of flat-screen televisions, the TV's these days seem to be getting thinner and thinner! The latest development is the Panasonic TC P54Z1, a 54-inch Viera Z1 Series Plasma TV which has a remote control thicker than the television set itself! Not only is the TV less than an inch in thickness, it's also completely wireless, great for the environment and coming down in price by the month. It's been touted as similar to a piece of art; only you choose what the screen shows on your wall.

Incredibly thin, the Panasonic TC-P54Z1 is just 0.8 inches in thickness. One man reported that the television is as thin or thinner than "most framed artwork" when mounted on a wall. It's also completely wireless with WirelessHD, using a special wireless transmitter along with a tuner box. The television also features "Viera Cast" which allows users to access YouTube video content and stream it on the TV. Additionally, it's a THX-certified display with a 2,000,000 to one dynamic contrast ratio.  Translation: You'll enjoy movies the way the way the directors intended them to be!

This television is environmentally conscious as well. It's an Energy Star Rated device free of mercury and lead in the panel. It includes a NeoPDP panel which prevents burn-ins on the screen. For years, plasmas have been viewed as less energy-efficient, but with the NEO PDP technology Panasonic is trying to level the playing field for TV's. NEO PDP technology gives a better contrast level and overall deeper black levels. Many of Panasonic's plasmas have "infinite black" as well meaning the TV almost shuts off entirely during the darker scenes on TV and movies.

As for life, the TC P54Z1 might outlast some people. The plasma TV has a lifespan of 100,000 hours or 34 years worth of 8 hour TV viewing days.

The Panasonic flatscreen television was first priced at just $10,000 if you wanted to own the 54-inch screen TV. Now it's dropped a few grand down to below $5,000 in some places.  The online retailer Amazon.com has limited quantities of the TC-P54Z1 in stock from third party vendors.  Give it several more months and we may see this TV at a competitive level, as we are seeing more and more flatter-screen Plasma and HDTV's coming to the market.  Plasma TV prices have also started to plummet.  Right now this 1-inch thick flatscreen TV set its a top of the line technology which is unseen by many, but these TV's should become more and more common.

Basically you can consider this new flat-screen plasma TV as "state of the art technology" or a piece of "technological art".
